Your number one skin concern during pregnancy

Stretch marks!

Your number one skin concern during pregnancy

Stretch marks, termed “striae” are the streaks or stripes formed on the skin as a result of rapid stretching of skin or weight changes. They appear mainly on the abdomen, thighs, hips, breasts and buttocks during pregnancy, due to the continuous growth of baby and mum.

The human skin consists of 3 main layers:
  1. Epidermis – the outer layer/surface
  2. Dermis – the middle layer
  3. Hypodermis – the deepest layer
When the connective tissue is stretched due to the expansion and contraction of the skin, stretch marks begin developing on the dermis (middle layer). The rapid stretching of a pregnant belly causes collagen to become weak and the elastin fibres start tearing, causing its normal production cycle to become damaged and interrupted. This results in the formation of scars under the epidermis (top layer). They can appear quite red or pink as scratch-like markings and gradually over time can turn into silvery lines. Their appearance usually depends on skin type, genes and moisture levels.

The best treatment of stretch marks is prevention.
There is evidence that daily massage with quality hydrating lotions and oils can help dramatically in the prevention and treatment of stretch marks and other scars (C-section scars?). Even if genes are against you, by using our high quality Stretch Mark Lotion you can maximise your skins resilience.

Taking a quality supplement like MamaCare Nutritional Supplement will give your body the everyday essential vitamins and minerals to nourish your body internally, in turn giving your skin a boost from within. Using MamaCare’s specifically formulated Intensive Night Treatment Oil and Stretch Mark Lotion gives your skin the very best of what nature has to offer from around the world to hydrate, nourish, soften and penetrate deeply into the skin for the best chance to prevent those dreaded stretch marks and even help to regenerate and heal old stretch marks and scars.

See our table of ingredients for a thorough understanding of what nature can offer to replenish and nourish your skin – naturally!
*Be assured that at MamaCare we do not use any mineral oils, which tend not to penetrate the skin but sit greasily on the surface. No parabens, minerals, petroleum or synthetic fragrance.

We make our products with pregnancy safe natural ingredients, free from synthetic fragrance, parabens, minerals and other ingredients linked to reproductive interference or cancer. After all, you don’t want to swap your worry of stretch marks to worry about what dangerous chemicals are getting into your baby’s blood stream.

Some commonly known and inexpensive commercial brands, while often paraben free and phthalate free are usually loaded with petrochemical ingredients, including mineral oil, petroleum and butylene glycol.

While recognised as safe for use in cosmetics they are known to dehydrate skin and reduce skins regenerative ability.

If your goal is to prevent stretch marks, drying out, and increasing your collagen and elastin – this is not the way to do it!

By starting your prevention regimen as early as possible you will give your skin the best chance of avoiding damage from stretch marks. Don’t forget stretch marks don’t just appear on your belly during pregnancy, they can appear on hips, thighs, inner thighs, buttocks and breasts. Make sure you give these areas their due attention!

Remember stretch mark prevention also comes from the inside, so drink plenty of water, take a good supplement (like MamaCare Nutritional Supplement) and stay moisturised with MamaCare Body Care!
